6/6/2008 - June 6, 2008 -- The 1940s-era will reign supreme this Saturday when Royal Air Force Molesworth opens its gates to ticket holders attending the annual World War II inspired "Hangar Dance."
"The dance is a great Anglo-American event," said Mrs. Janet Nolan, director of community programs for the 423rd Services Squadron and this year's event organizer. "Participants are encouraged to wear 40s-style dress and can expect big band music and American food."
Featured entertainment includes the 18-piece Mainland Big Band and the Silver Bird Music Machine.
"The Silver Bird Music Machine is DJ-style entertainment whose operator works out of a vintage aircraft," said Nolan. "He's scheduled to pay music in between the three, one-hour sessions performed by the Mainland Big Band."
Stations of American-themed food will be provided as well. Examples include ribs, hotdogs, Hersey's Chocolate, and funnel cakes.
"During the war it was difficult for Brits to get chocolate," said Nolan. "One of the things that many British Veterans remember is the American's bringing over Hersey's chocolate so we provided a station of chocolate at the dance."
The dance will be held in hangar 92 at RAF Molesworth. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event cost 14 pounds and can be purchased via the RAF Alconbury community center.
"We've sold over 400 tickets so far," said Nolan," but tickets are still available this week for purchase!"
