The 501st Combat Support Wing Office of the Staff Judge Advocate welcomes eligible members of the Department of Defense community for free assistance with personal civil legal matters. This typically includes the preparation of wills, advanced medical directives, and powers of attorney; notary services; and advice regarding claims, landlord-tenant issues, the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, and domestic relations.  Additionally, the British Liaison Officer may assist with a variety of local issues ranging from speeding tickets to British customs, to include liaising with host nation authorities (such as local police, prosecutors, and governmental bodies) or interacting with British companies on behalf of individual members of the Visiting Forces.

Eligibility is limited to all members of the Armed Forces on active duty (including members of a reserve component), reservists released from active duty having served 30 days or more, retirees from all branches of the service, DoD civilian employees, and lawful dependents.  However, priority shall be given to Active Duty personnel who need mobilization- or deployment-related legal assistance that facilitates Command readiness.  Contractors are only eligible for basic notary services and the services provided by the British Liaison.

Our office hours for legal assistance and notary services are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1400-1500 and are first-come, first-served (with priority to Active Duty personnel).

  • For the preparation of wills, advanced medical directives, and powers of attorney, you must first visit the Air Force Legal Assistance website at https://aflegalassistance.law.af.mil/ and complete a printable worksheet (provided on the AF Legal Assistance website along with a ticket number).  For wills and advanced medical directives, please contact the legal office and provide your worksheet before coming to the legal office during walk-in hours.
  • For powers of attorney, there is no need to call ahead, but you must bring your worksheet with you.
  • Additionally, if travelling from off-base (e.g., RAF Molesworth or the local community) we recommend you call the office prior to traveling to ensure the proper legal personnel are available for your needs or that the office is not closed for an official function.
  • If notary services are required outside of our office hours, you may choose to contact the U.S. Embassy in London for assistance (more information is available at https://uk.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/notary-services-for-all-nationalities/scheduling-an-appointment-at-the-embassy-in-london/).
