Lt. Gen. Richard Clark, 3rd Air Force Commander, visited the 501st Combat Support Wing to see deployed operations at RAF Fairford, United Kingdom, June 7, 2018.

3 B-1B Lancers assigned to the 345th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron were deployed in support of Exercise Baltic Operations.

Clark toured the base and spoke with deployed Airmen about their mission, jobs and to answer any questions or concerns they had.

Clark also shared the proverb ‘For Want Of A Nail’.

“For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the message was lost. For want of a message the battle was lost. For want of a battle the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail,” said Clark. “So even if you’re sitting here just tightening a bolt for the 100th time thinking it doesn't matter and it’s good enough, know that without that bolt on correctly it could be the difference between a successful mission and failure.”
