RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany --  To the Airmen and families of USAFE-AFAFRICA,

As we move into the heart of the holiday season, Cindy and I wanted to pause and thank you for the hard work and dedication you've shown throughout 2012. It's been an education to see the new challenges since my last tour in Europe, and an inspiration to see how this team rises to meet them for America and our allies every day.

I'm about to have a little down time with my family, I hope you'll also take the chance to relax, reflect, and safely celebrate. I know many of you will stay very busy -- thank you for enduring the long hours and separation from loved ones that have always been a part of our profession of arms. Whether deployed or at home, with family or on duty shoulder to shoulder with Airmen or our joint partners, know that our thoughts, prayers, and best wishes for 2013 are with you.

As always, you make me proud -- thanks for serving!
