RAF ALCONBURY, United Kingdom -- Tech. Sgt. Quentin Hawkins, 423rd Communications Squadron, was named the June 501st Everyday Hero from the 423rd Air Base Group.

Hawkins is responsible for maintaining communications layout drawings for base telephone connectivity, cable plant and data networks servicing all buildings on RAF Alconbury and RAF Molesworth.

Hawkins identified the need to replace an inadequate ventilation system, which was unable to effectively cool a $85 million technical control facility. He coordinated with U.S. Air Forces in Europe and local partners to secure future funding estimated at more than $1.5 million. This effort allows reconfigurations, and bring online a reliable cooling system necessary for communications equipment vital to national and global security.
