Beginning May 14 all commercial or contract vehicles will enter through the new large vehicle inspection gate located half a mile north of the main gate on Ermine Street.

The procedures for commercial vehicles have not changed, however an escort must be there to sign the driver on to the installation.

"If you are signing on a large vehicle you must coordinate the arrival time with the driver, so the vehicle doesn't impede traffic," said Master Sgt. Stacie White, 423rd Security Forces Squadron. "If there is no escort to sign on the driver, the truck will be turned around and will have to reenter the installation and be re-inspected to gain access when the escort has arrived."

The LVIS gate will be open from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday. If a commercial vehicle goes to the main gate during these times, the installation gate guards will instruct the vehicle to go to the LVIS gate.

According to White, traffic is now less likely to back up outside the installation and will allow security forces controllers to concentrate on entry procedures for the base population.

"We are doing everything we can to ensure the flow of traffic outside the gate runs smoothly," White said. "It is important for everyone to pay attention to the installation entry controllers directing traffic. Two lanes have now been opened up at the main gate to allow vehicles to enter in a timely manner."
