RAF ALCONBURY, United Kingdom -- Joe Smitheringale, 423rd Civil Engineer Squadron, was named the January 501st Everyday Hero from the 423rd Air Base Group.

Smitheringale is the fuels manager for the 423rd ABG, as part of his duties he is responsible for issuing and receiving fuel for three RAF bases. As part of those duties he works in all weather conditions to ensure all mission critical facilities run 24 hours a day seven days a week. He is also the only person responsible for keeping 28 heating tanks fueled.
