Recycling during the holidays Published Dec. 22, 2011 RAF ALCONBURY, United Kingdom -- When the holidays end and the family members depart for home, Airmen can be left wondering what to do with all the rubbish created during the holidays. To help handle the extra rubbish, the Environmental flights would like to provide some recycling tips for holiday items. All containers must be rinsed before placing them in the recycling bins. This includes soda cans, food tins and other bottles and jars. Wrapping paper can be placed in the paper recycling bins, but all non-paper items, such as bows and tape, should be removed. Cardboard boxes should be flattened before placing in cardboard recycling bins. Remove all non-cardboard packaging from cardboard boxes and place in the trash bins. Off-base residents should check with their local district council for information on the items that can be put in provided recycling bins. For off-base recycling centers, there are council-run facilities at Ardley, Farthinghoe and Shennington near RAF Croughton, and at Alconbury Hill near RAF Alconbury. Christmas Tree recycling will occur at RAF Alconbury Jan. 4-11. Trees can be dropped of at the contractor yard behind the picnic area/tennis courts. If the gate is locked, please leave the tree out front. Decorations must be removed from the trees and wreaths and artificial trees will not be accepted. For more information about recycling at the 422nd Air Base Group and the 423rd Air Base Group, click the group name for an information flyer.
