501st CSW Everyday Hero

Staff Sgt. Shawn Zapata, 421st Air Base Squadron, was named the November 501st Everyday Hero from the 421st Air Base Group.

Zapata earned recognition by taking on additional responsibility as the primary unit deployment manager, ensuring 68 group members were deployment ready . He filled supply Senior Noncommissioned Officer duties, advised his Flight Commander on supply issues and ensured excellent supply support. Additionally, he is the alternate Unit Drug Demand Reduction Program Manager, acting as a key deterrent to the use of illegal substances and ensuring strict adherence to Department of Defense and Air Force policy by civilian and military members. Zapata is a 421st ABG Physical Training Leader, and a key enabler of a highly successful program. His support and leadership contributed to 51 percent of 68 members scoring excellent on official tests.
 
In the course of his duties as NCOIC of Supply Operations, he supervises standard base supply system operations, performs quality control, condition, identity and quantity verification of assets received and stocked.
