RAF ALCONBURY, United Kingdom -- Rick Matthews, 501st Combat Support Wing Comptroller Flight, was named the October 501st Everyday Hero from the wing staff.

Matthews led the wing effort to transform deployment orders and travel vouchers from paper to the Defense Travel System. He also tracks the budget performance metrics for all three air base groups in the wing, which led to consistent top-3 USAFE ratings for the comptroller flight.

During the 2011 fiscal closeout, Matthews ensured all wing funding was properly loaded in accounting systems, which contributed to more than $1 million being utilized to purchase off the wing unfunded priority purchase list.
