Holiday Season recommended mailing dates announced

The U.S. Postal Service, Military Postal Service Agency and U.S. Air Forces in Europe Postal Operations office recently announced the recommended deadlines to ensure delivery of packages by Dec. 25.

For customers mailing packages from an APO to the continental United States the following are suggested mailing dates for the classes of mail available from USAFE APOs:

Space-Available Mail - Nov. 25, 2011
Parcel Airlift Mail - Dec. 2, 2011
First Class/Priority Mail - Dec. 9, 2011
Express Mail - Dec. 16, 2011

Holiday Forever Stamps also become available in mid-October at USAFE APOs.

To ensure packages arrive to Military and State Department post offices overseas and downrange by Dec. 25, the Military Postal Service Agency released the following deadlines:

Space-Available Mail - Nov. 26, 2011
Parcel Airlift Mail - Dec. 3, 2011
First Class/Priority Mail - Dec. 10, 2011
Express Mail - Dec. 16, 2011

"Express Mail Military Service is not available for holiday packages and mail going to Iraq and Afghanistan," said Faye Slater, Military Postal Service Agency deputy director.

The Military Postal Service provides mail service around the world to Department of Defense and most Department of State locations. Mail is moved on commercial and military aircraft and commercial sealift vessels to nearly 2,000 military post offices located in more than 85 countries.
