The 501st Combat Support Wing recently named the Innovator of the Month for June.

The 423rd Force Support Squadron Lodging Office was recognized by Col. Brian Kelly, 501st CSW commander, for their innovation to turn waste into profit.

During the recent lodging refurbishment the lodging office was left with out-of-date armoires designed for obsolete vacuum-tube televisions. In the past these furnishings were poor sellers at non-appropriated fund sales.

With a new need for a stand designed for flat-screen TVs, the lodging team converted the old armoires to modern versions instead of purchasing new furnishings. With this re-utilization, the lodging team saved $300 for each new furnishing and $9,000 overall.

In addition to saving money instead of purchasing new stands, the lodging office plans to convert 47 other armoires and sell them in a NAF sale to purchase coffee makers and coverlets for lodging rooms - improving the quality of life for future guests.

Micah Gathercoal, Pablo Arrieta, Geoffrey Clark and Steve Henson all contributed to the innovation.
