COMUSAFE Holiday Safety Message Published Dec. 23, 2009 By Gen. Roger Brady Commander, US Air Forces in Europe USAFE -- I wish each of you a happy and joyous holiday season and New Year. Throughout USAFE you have been a shining example of service before self, and for that I thank you. Over the last 10 years the Air Force has lost 10 times as many Airmen to off-duty mishaps as on-duty, including combat operations. Specifically, the time between Christmas and New Year's has been especially dangerous for our Airmen. With this in mind, I ask each of you to take a moment to consider how a poor choice or risky behavior could change the meaning of the holidays for your family forever. Remember, the risks you take can endanger not only you, but the lives of others as well. Think about the legacy you could leave behind when you make your holiday plans. While we enjoy the holidays and time off with family and friends, take the time to remember those Airmen deployed, as well as those single Airmen who while not deployed are away from their family. Include them in your plans when possible. I'm proud of all of you and honored to serve with you here in USAFE in our great Air Force. Happy holidays to all.
