Muckfest

It was a cold, windy, Wednesday when the kids arrived outside the Scout Hut for "Muckfest." But that didn't prevent 25 Middle School students and 35 High School students from coming out for a great time.

You might be wondering what "Muckfest" is? "Muckfest" is a huge food fight.

"We did these food fights in the states for fourteen years and always had a great time," said Jim Pitzer, the Club Beyond Community Director at Alconbury

There are always funny looks and lots of questions about Muckfest during the promotion of the event. Why have a big food fight?

"There are several purposes for the event, we want the students to have fun by getting as messy as possible, without having to clean any of it up afterwards," Mr. Pitzer said. "Muckfest also allows us to get in there with the students during the food fight to build and strengthen our relationships, to demonstrate that the leaders can get 'muck' and still have fun, and it allows some of our regular students to invite their friends who may not be comfortable with church. We've had students tell us that this simple activity has helped them with trust, and this carries over into our talks during club about Jesus Christ and what He did for us."

Trash bags were provided to go over their clothes in an attempt to shield some of the cold wind, and, of course, safety goggles to protect their eyes. Once the students were properly attired the muck was poured out on the ground and great clumps of it soon filled the air. Several volunteers braved the cold, and flying food, to help with set up and cleanup, and to help keep things flowing.

Mr. Pitzer thanks the tri-base community for all those who helped to organize this event and the clean up!
