A-10 Cleaning
Members of the 423d Civil Engineer Squadron performed maintenance on the A-10 static display aircraft on RAF Alconbury Aug. 31. Following the guidance of the USAFE historian, 17 personnel scrubbed the airplane with soft bristle brushes using a mild detergent to carefully clean the surface removing the buildup of dirt, moss and bird droppings.
The cleaning helped to prevent corrosion and damage to the aircraft. CE saved $2,000 on contracted cleaning and accomplished the job to coincide with the completion of the pavement work in the A-10 area. The work is part of a $790,000 basewide pavement upgrade project. It will be completed in time for the Air Force’s birthday celebration and the Battle of Britain Sunset ceremony to be held on Sept. 24 and attended by local civic dignitaries.
