Wing holds inaugural sports day at RAF Croughton

The 501st Combat Support Wing is gearing-up for its inaugural "Wing Sports Day" to be held Friday at RAF Croughton. The event boast fifteen different competitive events and a BBQ lunch. 

Senior Master Sgt. Jeffery Douglas, the sports day organizer and Superintendant of the 422nd Civil Engineer Squadron said, "Sports day is a great chance to come together from across the various locations in the wing. It promotes esprit-de-corps through sports competition." 

The activities for sports day include: soccer match, tug-of-war, team 5K, sand volleyball, softball tournament, soccer kick, 100-ft dummy drag, football throw, kickball, basketball tournament, warrior relay race, horseshoes, team dodge ball, bowling and dizzy bat competition. 

The team 5K requires 8 participants per team to run 5k each for a total of 40k. Each participant's time will be added to that of their team mates for a total time. The soccer kick and football throw competition evaluate distance and accuracy. The dizzy bat competition involves spinning around a bat and running to another bat and repeating the exercise. 

"There is clearly something for everyone," said Douglas. "We encourage people to sign up for the various events as soon as possible through their group points of contact."
The opening ceremonies begin at 9:00 a.m. at the RAF Croughton "A-Frame" area and close with the trophy presentation at 3 p.m. 

The group that performs best over-all will receive the winning trophy as well as the 1st-place winners in each of the fifteen event categories. A BBQ lunch will also be provided gratis and is available to participants from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m.
