501 CSW Innovator of the Month - January 2013
RAF CROUGHTON, United Kingdom – David Fischer and Steve Evans were recently named the 501st Combat Support Wing Innovator of the Month for January. Fisher, from the 420th Air Base Squadron Civil Engineer Squadron was researching de-icing products to restock the supply for RAF Fairford's runway; he found out that RAF Lakenheath had a large amount of granular, airfield deicer they had to get rid of. Fisher arranged to take the chemicals from RAF Lakenheath, free of charge. He then contacted Evans, from the 420th ABS SERCO office, to transport the chemicals from RAF Lakenheath to RAF Fairford. In the end, Fisher and Evans obtaining approximately three tons of sodium acetate (de-icing chemicals) to use throughout RAF Fairford and saved more than $10,000 in buying the product, plus the disposal costs RAF Lakenheath would have incurred.
