501 CSW Innovator of the Month - October 2012
RAF MOLESWORTH, United Kingdom - The RAF Molesworth Weapons Range AFSO21 Team was recently named the501st Combat Support Wing Innovator of the Month for October. The team used a cross-functional approach through the AFSO21 process to identify a course of action to solve a U.S. visiting forces weapons training shortfall throughout the United Kingdom. They identified and conducted range refurbishment efforts to reconfigure the range's surface danger zone to ensure the training complex met U.S. Air Force and host nation certification requirements. Using the range will reduce the wing's lost man-hours by 420 hours per year and save $164,000 annually while eliminating safety concerns associated with lengthy training days and associated travel. As the largest U.S. visiting forces range in the U.K., it not only enables personnel of the 501st CSW to meet weapons qualification requirements, but also provides relief to the 48th Security Forces Squadron weapons range and instructor core by supporting a 5,000 training slot shortfall.
