Ms. Pauline "Bobby" Roberts as she appeared during the 1940's when she was engaged to Staff Sgt. Joseph G. "Zip" Zsampar. Their romance tragically ended when the B-17F Flying Fortress bomber "FDR's Potato Peeler Kids" in which he was the tail gunner was shot down with the loss of the entire crew on May 14, 1943. Staff Sgt. Joseph G. "Zip" Zsampar, U.S. Army (Front row, far right) was a member of the crew of Capt Ross C. Bales. He was killed when the B-17F Flying Fortress was shot down over the North Sea on May 14, 1943. The visit on September 25, 2009 of Ms. Louise Smedley-Hampson commemorated the life of Staff Sgt.
